Performances

“Blue Gold” is a performative collage composed of fragments from earlier choreographies and several new scenes, creating a personal and patchwork-like portrait of the artist – the main creator behind the universe of the Warsaw-based HOTELOKO Company. Agata Życzkowska’s solo moves along the edge of madness, absurdity, and melancholy, becoming both an intimate and universal search for the identity of a woman-artist who continually transforms her body, movement language, and personal biography. The performance consciously plays with the convention of a “greatest hits” show, but instead of offering a nostalgic return to the past, it presents a bold and energetic remix – filtered through the current life moment and emotional state. It’s a physical journey in which an experienced body still pulses with an irresistible urge to live. The sequins worn by the artist are not just decorations – they are armor, stories, traces of all her previous selves. Their shimmer reflects the light of the past and directs it toward the future.
Blue Gold is also water – the most precious resource of our time, increasingly endangered, restricted, depleted. Symbolically, it becomes a metaphor for the body and feminine creativity – fluid, alive, yet vulnerable to exhaustion, drying out, and marginalization. And at the center of it all – an absolutely fantastic dancer who, instead of disappearing from the stage, returns to it with even greater strength. With a maturity that doesn’t exclude madness. With distance and humor as tools of healing. This is a solo about a woman who shines not because she’s perfect, but because she reflects the light of all her cracks. About strength born from doubt, and about a gentle, sensitive rebellion. About dance where ecstasy and exhaustion coexist – and about a beauty that arises when there’s no longer a need to choose between the two.

“(M)OTHERS” focuses on an expanded concept of the mother – one that encompasses not only biological connections but also social and territorial dimensions. It is an attempt to explore this universal “MOTHER” role that each of us carries within, regardless of gender, age, sexual identity, skin color, physical ability, or education level: silence, city, queer, play, community, senses, chameleon, dragon, stranger, other.
The performance opens up a space for reflection on empathy, social expectations, and love despite differences. It is a collage of images, memories, choreographies, words, musical postcards, and dreams.
The production was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund under the “Dance” program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

“LUXA” is a performance by Agata Życzkowska that explores the concept of luxury items for girls and women, and investigates what can be or can become a luxury within specific social, physical, and philosophical contexts. It is an attempt to touch on the idea of luxury through the lens of human relationships in a pop-cultural world. Luxury can mean a deep green jade stone – a natural gift from the Earth. It can also be cacao beans, which were once more valuable than gold and are now gaining in value year after year. For a contemporary woman, luxury may be something immaterial, such as the freedom to choose, access to knowledge, or the ability to be oneself in accordance with one’s needs and values.
Luxury has many faces. What else might be considered a luxury for today’s woman in Poland, in Europe?

Solarpunk is an artistic movement that is developing especially in literature, visual arts, design, architecture, fashion, and activism. The idea behind the HOTELOKO Company’s performance — featuring Agata Życzkowska, Mirek Woźniak, Karina Szutko, and Maciej Feliga — is to introduce this movement into the world of contemporary dance by building new constellations of movement with different people in a given space.
Solarpunk embraces the diversity of cultures, genders, religions, abilities, gender roles, and sexual identities. It is rooted in creating diverse communities within diverse environments. Solarpunk seeks to strengthen human togetherness by improving the quality of human relationships both locally and globally. This artistic movement envisions what the future could look like if humanity managed to merge technology with nature — through collective efforts to build communities around this idea. It values not only smart cities but also smart citizenship.
It is one of the few artistic currents offering a positive and hopeful vision of the future, especially in the context of technology, society, and the natural world.
SOLARPUNK is the key to being authentic,
SOLARPUNK is being in harmony with yourself and others,
SOLARPUNK is a motivator for growth and motion,
SOLARPUNK is the wind in your hair,
SOLARPUNK is triumph over fear,
SOLARPUNK is art,
SOLARPUNK is a win,
SOLARPUNK is a moment,
SOLARPUNK is oxygen.

Twilight bridges day and night, creating a space for harmony and integration — much like friendship connects different aspects of our lives. In ecofeminism, viewing a woman solely as a reproductive being is limiting. Friendship reminds us that every woman has the right to define her own path and live fully, free from societal norms.
“TWILIGHT” is an encounter that explores what makes us feel safe and authentic in the presence of others. We reflect on how pheromones and scents influence our relationships. Among animals, scent signals are detected from great distances, and in humans, they also play a vital role in forming bonds. We investigate how different energies, bodies, and smells interact to create a harmonious mosaic of connection.

A blue choreography for three bodies.
An optimistic look at the future of our planet.
Some of us will survive.
The performance explores the fear of disappearing from this Earth and the ways we might endure — through collective action and community.
Species like the Caspian tiger, the Pinta Island giant tortoise, and the Amur leopard have gone extinct in our world. Yet hope emerges: the Formosan clouded leopard, believed extinct for 36 years, was spotted again in a Taiwanese village by local residents.
Colors provoke physical reactions, influence our bodies, and help us fight unwanted states — including fear. Blue, in particular, makes us happy. It has calming properties. It cools high temperatures. It suppresses appetite. It quenches thirst. Water is blue gold.
Today, more than 40,000 animal and plant species are at risk of extinction. Disappearance disrupts the delicate balance of ecosystems. Koalas, lemurs, and squid are on the brink. But there are also survivors and success stories: the European bison, grey seal, moose.
When will humanity reach the edge of extinction?
How can we stop the fading of our world?

The theory of AXIOM OF CHOICE is processed through the prism of the artists’ identities in social and choreographic aspects.
The selectors who choose are the common threads connecting them—such as generation, attitude toward ecology, numbers, pheromones, blood type, being an outsider, or the scent of childhood mandarins. The axiom of choice in the context of the climate crisis and apocalyptic times is an optimistic theory. However, its optimism can only resonate at the moment of encounter.
The choreography is composed of choices: pink or blue, dressed or naked, Versace or Chanel. Generation, attitude toward ecology, oddities, pheromones. People can be closer to each other than they might think. Intersecting and disjoint sets form the certainty of choice. Shared discoveries based on the analysis of sets and numbers build closeness, which—understood as an organic need—leads toward intimacy. A deep insight into each artist’s personal histories allows them to immerse themselves in mutual perspectives. This results in a multiplicity of shared sets—selectors—which often reveal their deepest desires and fears.
The choreography emerges from the collision of authentic movement elements with retrospectives of stage incarnations and performers’ memories. The action awakens through associations with scents, treated as a kind of time capsule.
The syncretic blending of expressive means, characteristic of the HOTELOKO movement makers collective, creates a mosaic structure of the performance, executed by Mirek Woźniak and Agata Życzkowska.
The performance received the First Prize – The Great Theatrical Consequence at the IV Sopockie Konsekwencje Teatralne Festival in 2020. It was also presented in Sicily as part of the Festival Internazionale Dissidanza in Palermo (2021).

An actress, a dancer, and a choreographer together look closely at their roots and history, tackling the themes of education and identity, reflecting on what gives them wings and what clips them. All this unfolds to the rhythms of ’80s music, folk, and classical music. The trio Absolutely Fabulous Dancers seek answers and inspiration in the past, Polish history, everyday movement, body memory, and performative tools. In this way, the artists from the HOTELOKO movement makers collective build their unique and absurd dance style. The performance was awarded the Coup de Coeur du Jury at the Festival Quartiers Danses in Montreal (Canada, 2019).
During the creative process, they asked themselves: What shaped us? Where are we heading? Does anyone know what our life would look like if it weren’t for the education imposed on us from above, which we had to get through? To move forward, do we need to wake up and unlearn everything we first had to learn? Is it possible to find peace again despite history repeating the same circle over and over?
„See me beautiful
SONG BY Marshall Rosenberg
Look for the best in me
It’s what I really am
And all I want to be
It may take some time
It may be hard to find
But see me beautiful”
